We designed a robust hybrid search system using:
- text-embedding-3-large model for high-quality 3072-dimensional vectors
- Hybrid Search (keyword + vector search) for superior recall
- Semantic ranking to surface the most relevant passages for each query
2. Intelligent Document Enrichment Pipeline
Enterprise documents are rarely clean. We built a sophisticated ingestion pipeline with Azure Cognitive Skills that includes:
- Advanced OCR for scanned documents
- Intelligent chunking while preserving page-level metadata
- Language detection and key phrase extraction
- Custom enrichment using chat-completion skills for better contextual understanding
3. Full Traceability by Design
Every chunk in the index carries detailed metadata (document name, page number, section, etc.). This allows the assistant to cite the exact source PDF and page for every answer — giving subject matter experts the ability to verify information in seconds.
4. Coherent Multi-Turn Conversations
We implemented intelligent conversation summarization instead of dumping full history into every prompt. This keeps responses contextually accurate, cost-efficient, and on-topic.
5. Cost & Performance Optimization
Additional techniques like semantic caching and domain-specific entity handling ensure the solution remains efficient at scale.
